Kelly Shears

Kelly was born and raised in Parson’s Pond, a small community on the Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador. She has always had a unique connection to elders in her family and her community and her passion for helping the elderly led her to pursue a career in Social Work. While raising her family, Kelly graduated from Memorial University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology. She continued her studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Social Work from Dalhousie University in 2019. Following her interest in helping people navigate difficult experiences, and seeing a specific need to provide counselling for people experiencing grief and mourning, she subsequently obtained a Diploma in Mourning, Grief and Bereavement from Georgian College in 2022. Kelly has also spent extensive time learning about Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, completing multiple courses and pursuing independent studies. She is a referring partner to the Alzheimer’s Society and has experience working with people with dementia and Alzheimer’s, as well as with their families. She also has experience helping clients navigate community services and supports. Kelly is passionate about helping people live their best lives and is especially focused on making the lives of seniors better in Western Newfoundland. She loves spending time with her family and learning from her elder family members, reading and enjoying walks on the beach.
